Apple saw its smartphone shipments in China plummet 25 per cent to 13.1 million units in the three months through December, down from 17.5 million a year earlier, according to data released by research firm Canalys last month.
Morningstar’s senior equity analyst Chelsey Lam offered a more optimistic take on the Alibaba-Apple deal, pointing out that it "partially validates Alibaba’s capabilities in AI and Qwen 2.5 Max because selecting the right partner to deliver a good Apple Intelligence experience will help them reinvigorate iPhone sales in China”.
