China’s tech giant Huawei Technologies continues to be a thorn in Apple’s side, with its latest jab coming in the form of new smartwatches. At an event in Shanghai on Tuesday, Huawei introduced its new GT 5 series watches – with prices starting at 1,488 yuan (US$212) – featuring a slimmer design, upgraded antenna and algorithm for improved positioning accuracy, among other features. That followed the prior week’s launch of what Huawei touted as the world’s first commercial trifold smartphone, the Mate XT, on the same day Apple started sales of its iPhone 16 series.
